Chemotherapy support group to resume at Essentia Health-Moose Lake

After being paused for more than two years, Essentia Health-Moose Lake is proud to announce the return of its chemotherapy support group.

The group is run by Essentia nurses who work in the infusion department and is open to patients who are undergoing chemotherapy treatment, as well as their families.

“I’m so happy we have our group back up and running,” said Lacy Skog, an Essentia registered nurse who works in the infusion center and oversees the program. “It’s been difficult not being able to offer this resource to patients during the pandemic when so many people needed it the most. I missed getting to see everyone each month and catching up with them.”

Whether it’s financial concerns or worries about your health and well-being, the goal is to help patients find a wholesome life balance and maintain good mental health.

The group meets from 3-4:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of every month in the Essentia Health-Moose Lake boardroom on the first floor of the hospital. There, patients can share their concerns with others going through similar experiences and listen and learn from one another.

“Cancer is a life-altering diagnosis — not only for patients, but for their family and friends as well,” said Skog. “This support group is a great place for people to connect with others that can truly understand what they’re going through. Whether someone has been to a support group in the past or this is new to them, I would highly encourage them to come check us out in Moose Lake. We welcome anyone who has been affected by cancer to come share or just sit and listen. Either way, we are here for you.”

The program is free to attend and registration is not required. Questions can be directed to the infusion department by calling (218) 485-5599.
