Allyson Loup joins the team at Essentia Health-Sandstone.
Essentia Health-Sandstone has expanded its rehabilitation services to benefit patients in the Pine County area. Now, patients can receive care in women’s health and pelvic therapy, speech language pathology, and pulmonary rehabilitation, in addition to the current cardiac rehabilitation services.
“By offering these services, we are able to get people from surrounding communities the care they want and need without requiring long commutes or lengthy wait periods,” says James Warfield, a physical therapist at Essentia who also manages rehabilitation services in Sandstone and Hinckley. “Our access to care is especially good for speech language pathology, allowing patients to schedule same day or next day appointments Monday through Friday.”
Askov native Allyson Loupe received her doctorate in physical therapy with a concentration in women’s health & pelvic therapy from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. Loupe says she’s excited to help educate her patients, especially during pregnancy and postpartum.
“I love watching my patients reach their goals with the help of physical therapy,” Loupe says. “We can help them with many different medical conditions, from pregnancy and postpartum issues, bowel and bladder problems, pelvic pain, and cancer care, we’re here for you.”
Women’s health and pelvic therapy involves a one-hour evaluation typically, then a visit once a week for 8 weeks. The service is available for women of all ages.
“The women’s health and pelvic therapy that Ally offers is an excellent benefit to members of the surrounding communities that is not typically available in rural communities,” adds Warfield. “Growing up in a local, rural community myself, it is exciting to be part of a team that can offer these great services.”
A new Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program at Essentia Health-Sandstone is making a difference in the lives of the patients Essentia serves. It’s designed to benefit patients with lung disease increase their quality of life.

Living with lung disease can present many difficulties, traveling to receive care should not be one of them. With the new program, now we can help our patients right here in their community.”
Therapy includes a one hour initial appointment, followed by a personalized exercise program to help increase strength and stamina. Patients using oxygen are encouraged to participate. Most insurance companies cover the service, and your primary care provider should refer you to the Clinic.
