When people in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, think of senior housing, they think of Winchester Senior Apartments. Tucked comfortably into the Essentia Health-St. Mary’s Hospital and Clinic campus, this 28-unit independent living apartment complex provides convenient, climate-controlled access to an entire continuum of senior care. One-third of our residents, in fact, live just down the hall from spouses who require the full nursing services of our Oak Crossing long-term care facility. That’s not just convenience, that’s security. And few things feel more comfortable.
Just a short walk from downtown shops, restaurants, churches, library and other amenities, Winchester offers 18 one-bedroom apartments (available in three square-footage configurations) and 10 roomy two-bedroom units. Each apartment features a full kitchen and is unfurnished, with ample space for your favorite belongings. Most importantly, Winchester Senior Apartments create a community—a tight-knit neighborhood of seniors over 62 who share similar interests and a strong sense of independence.

One of the first independent senior housing facilities in the region, the Winchester Senior Apartments complex was constructed in 1995 after a regional study evidenced a need for market-rate senior housing. Built right along Main Street and just a few blocks from Detroit Lake, the facility is designed to maintain residents’ personal choice and continued comfort.
Throughout Essentia Health we are called to make a healthy difference in people’s lives.
As a member of the Essentia Health family, Winchester's mission as a Catholic, Benedictine sponsored facility is to promote Christ’s ministry of holistic healing for all human life with special concern for the poor and powerless.
