Surgical intensive care units offer constant monitoring of patients who have complex medical conditions requiring close monitoring after surgery. Some complex surgeries also require any patient to have additional post-surgery monitoring to reduce the risk of complications and ensure better recovery. Surgical critical care is provided by a cross-functional team of specialists coordinated by intensivists who are specially trained in preserving life and organ function for our surgical patients requiring a higher level of monitoring. These intensivists may coordinate care with cardiologists, neurologists, pulmonologists and other surgeons and medical specialists in the treatment of these patients to ensure the best care for their condition.
Surgical patients admitted to the hospital for the following types of surgeries, may be treated in the surgical ICU:
- Gastrointestinal
- Liver
- Renal or kidney
- Pancreas
- Tumor removal
- Orthopedic
- Head & Neck Surgery
In situations where a patient is in the hospital’s surgical intensive care unit, you will be cared for by a cross-functional team of medical specialists based on your specific surgery or medical condition. These medical teams offer the best care for the patient while also caring for the family and friends.
