Caring Hearts Perinatal Program
A collaborative partnership providing families experiencing inevitable perinatal loss with support and options before, during and after their child’s birth.
Caring Hearts Perinatal Program of Essentia Health is a program designed to provide options to parents who have received news their child will not be able to survive after birth, whereby the parents are not choosing to terminate the pregnancy but allow the pregnancy to continue until natural birth of the baby. An extension of traditional hospice care, Caring Hearts Perinatal Program provides support to parents and families from the time their baby is diagnosed, through the birth and death of their infant and into the postpartum period.
This support includes providing parents and families with information and grief counseling throughout the pregnancy, grief and pain management during labor as well as comfort measures for the baby following delivery. Pastoral care and social services (as needed or requested) and postpartum bereavement care are also available to the family.
